Compatibilism
Freedom and moral responsibility can exist even if determinism is true.
What it claims
Compatibilism understands freedom through the conditions under which a person acts, rather than through an absence of causal determination. It rejects the premise shared by hard determinists and libertarians that freedom cannot coexist with determinism. In Hume's classical account (1748), liberty is the power to act or refrain from acting according to one's will.
